The Public Safety Supervisor provides for the general safety and security of the UC Irvine, Orange Health, and UC Irvine Health population, physical property, and assets as prescribed by law, regulatory compliance, departmental procedures and guidelines. Under the direction of UC Irvine Police Department, the Public Safety Supervisor supports the goals and objectives of the department through the direct supervision of public safety officers (PSO) and public safety ambassadors (PSA). The Public Safety Supervisor monitors and directs security operations while supervising PSO & PSA personnel.

  • Knowledge of regulations regarding hazardous materials, fire codes, building codes, and all other relevant safety requirements and ability to apply concepts to operations in assigned unit.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring and advising employees.
  • Actively cooperates and supports the work of others.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills to applied to coordinating assigned staff schedules and unit operations.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work well with others to achieve common goals.
  • Customer service orientation to quickly address questions or issues.
  • Ability to apply judgement to quickly evaluate issues and on the spot identify a potential solution within defined procedures and policies.
  • Interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations with a multi-cultural population and escalate appropriately.
  • Ability to utilize a supervision style that emphasizes teamwork, participation, partnership, communication and team development which motivate personnel.
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills.

  • Must be able to conduct sustained foot patrols and/or extended stationary (standing/sitting) post assignments.
  • Experience working in a University environment.
  • Prior hospital security supervisor experience.
  • Bilingual in second language other than English.
  • Experience with Taser and use of force principles.
  • High school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training.
  • Associate Degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Prior experience in security services or applicable field.
