The UC Irvine Police Department provides public safety and law enforcement services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for the UCI Irvine campus and properties, and the UCI Health Network. The Police Department's Health Division uses a hybrid model that includes Police Officers, Public Safety Ambassadors, Public Safety Responders, Public Safety Supervisors, Security Supervisors, and other professional staff members who work together to safeguard the lives and property of the University and its patients, visitors, faculty, staff and students at the various UCI sites. Public Safety Supervisors supervise a shift or team of Public Safety members who are tasked with providing both patient-facing and non-patient-facing roles and responsibilities. These include providing information, directions, and general assistance, patrolling and responding to calls for service at various UCI properties, responding to emergencies like disturbances or medical crises, monitoring suspicious activity, providing escorts and assisting with the de-escalation of violent situations, and supervising public safety staff. They may also make arrests, supervise staff members making arrests, assist in placing persons in restraints, write and approve reports, and monitor patients as needed. Public Safety Supervisors are expected to conduct themselves professionally and ethically while enforcing policies and procedures, exhibiting a standard of excellence based on the department's core values of commitment to community, accountability, respect, and employee wellness (CARE).
