Public Safety Officers on the Hendrix College campus play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the campus community. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for all individuals on campus, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The officer's duties encompass a wide range of responsibilities aimed at preventing incidents and responding effectively to emergencies. Officers are expected to patrol campus buildings and grounds regularly, addressing any incidents of theft, vandalism, fire hazards, or disorderly conduct. They are also tasked with ensuring that all buildings are secured appropriately, which includes locking and unlocking facilities as needed. In addition to patrolling, Public Safety Officers are responsible for inspecting life safety equipment, such as locks, lighting, fire extinguishers, and alarms, to ensure they are in proper working order. They must report any public safety incidents or hazardous conditions to the appropriate officials, including inoperative alarms or broken windows. Officers will investigate complaints made by faculty, staff, or students and traffic accidents occurring on campus. They also provide essential public safety services during special events, which may include parking and traffic direction, crowd control, and issuing traffic or parking violation citations. Furthermore, officers assist local police with investigations on campus and provide visitors with directions and general information about Hendrix College. The role requires thorough documentation of all public safety activities, including preparing necessary paperwork. Officers may also be assigned additional duties by the Director of Public Safety as needed. This position is vital in fostering a safe and secure educational environment, and the officer's presence is integral to the overall safety strategy of Hendrix College.
