The Department of Public Safety serves the Creighton community through proactive patrolling, rapid response, outreach, security technology, and safe transportation. Our goal is to create a secure environment for all community members. The team consists of 3 shift managers, 3 lead officers, 18 unarmed and armed officers, and 6 dispatchers. Public Safety is responsible for campus security, enforcement, emergency management, campus safety, and parking on the Omaha Campus. Officers protect life and property, demonstrating integrity, community engagement, and sound judgment under pressure. They respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, apply crime prevention techniques, and conduct investigations using surveillance and access records. Officers handle fire and security alarms, provide first aid, engage with students, enforce parking regulations, and assist with vehicle issues. They may also take on dispatcher duties or other assignments as needed. While the core duties and essential functions of a Public Safety Officer role are similar for armed and unarmed officers, those who work in an armed capacity will be responsible for safely and securely maintaining and carrying a university-owned firearm and complying with Federal, State and Local laws in addition to the department standard operating procedures (SOPs) governing the use of force.
