About The Position

The primary purpose of the Public Safety Officer position is to screen students, patients, staff, faculty and visitors entering the facilities of the University for proper identification. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, facilitate the orderly evacuation of the buildings and structures. As a Public Safety Officer, you help ensure a safe, welcoming environment so patients, families, and employees can focus on care, research, and education.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Calm under pressure with sound judgment in emergencies
  • Service-focused, reliable, and team-oriented
  • Motivated to grow in public safety and healthcare security
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of relevant work experience.
  • Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license.
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Nice To Haves

  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide information, directions, and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff
  • Patrol campus by vehicle and on foot; monitor for suspicious activity and safety hazards
  • Enforce institutional and parking regulations; issue permits and citations as needed
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Clery Act
