About The Position

The Public Safety Officer at the University of Chicago Medical Center is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe environment for faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and property. This full-time position requires onsite presence at the Hyde Park location and involves supervising public safety coordinators, managing emergency communications, and ensuring the safety of the medical center through various security measures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 21 years of age
• Three to five years of experience in security or law enforcement
• Ability to complete IAHSS Certification Training Program within 90 days of employment
• Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC)
• Valid Driver's License
• Completion of Illinois 20-Hour Unarmed Security Officer Certificate within 180 days
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Verbal Intervention Training/Certification
• IAHSS Basic Certification
• IAHSS Advanced Certification
• CPR/AED Certification
• Defensive Tactics
• Handcuffing Certification
• Use of Restraints

Nice To Haves

• College preferred
• At least one year in health care

Responsibilities

• Supervises the work of public safety coordinators by assigning work and reviewing performance.
• Recommends discipline of Public Safety Coordinators and participates in their hiring.
• Evaluates Public Safety Coordinators' work performance and schedules daily assignments.
• Performs communications dispatch functions for UC Medicine Public Safety.
• Monitors closed circuit television cameras and alarm systems.
• Assigns Incident Report numbers from the Continuum Incident Report System.
• Monitors radio traffic and communicates with UCPD dispatch during emergencies.
• Directs and coordinates the Public Safety response to calls for service and alarms.
• Maintains radio contact with Public Safety personnel to ensure their safety.
