About The Position
The Public Safety Officer at Stetson University is responsible for providing security services within a campus environment, ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. This role involves a variety of essential duties aimed at maintaining a secure campus atmosphere. Officers will patrol the campus on foot, in motor vehicles, and using carts, ensuring a visible presence and conducting random surveillance to deter prohibited behaviors. The officer will also be responsible for facility security, promoting safety awareness, and responding to emergencies as the first responder. In addition to patrolling, the officer will handle various security functions during their shift, including providing parking lot escort services, managing lock-outs, and addressing access issues. Familiarity with the operation of fire alarms, first aid kits, and AED devices is crucial, as the officer will need to respond to emergencies effectively. The role also includes observing and reporting safety hazards, providing traffic control, and supervising parking lots. Officers will be expected to report any violations of law or college policies to their supervisor. Additional responsibilities include assisting with special events, training new officers, performing monthly inspections of safety equipment, and providing administrative support such as guest check-ins and logging lost and found items. The officer must maintain a collaborative work environment, perform duties professionally, and be flexible to work various shifts as needed. This position requires good judgment, interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, ensuring a safe and secure campus for all.
