The Public Safety Officer II is a non-commissioned security officer and is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the people, buildings, and property of the campus community. This is a high-visibility, service-oriented job, and a position of the public trust. This position is being hired for the 11:00 pm - 7:00 am shift.

  • Provide visible security and protective services to the college community by conducting routine patrols of buildings and outdoor areas on campus.
  • Provide basic information and directions to the campus community and the general public.
  • Show courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the community.
  • Follow campus procedures for enforcing college rules and policies, as well as state law.
  • Understand emergency response protocols and conduct rapid assessments of situations.
  • Coordinate response efforts to emergencies with local police and fire departments.
  • Provide emergency first aid to injured persons and assist in transportation arrangements.
  • Engage with students in crisis and coordinate resources for their care.
  • Work with the Office of Student Services on housing issues and key control.
  • Support superior officers and local police in investigations.
  • Maintain situational awareness of the campus area for potential threats.
  • Complete necessary administrative reports/forms related to incidents.
  • Manage various databases related to security operations.
  • Serve as a Field Training Officer for newly hired officers.
  • Maintain regular radio communications with officers and college staff.
  • Report faulty and unsafe situations and equipment.
  • Respond to calls for lockouts and admit authorized personnel.
  • Attend courses and seminars to develop protective services skills.
  • Conduct security patrols under various conditions.
  • Apply for a Special Police Commission within 90 days of employment.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications, including CPR and first aid.
  • Make arrests and deal with disorderly persons as appropriate.
  • Appear in court to testify regarding incidents when necessary.
  • Engage in crowd control for scheduled events and emergencies.
  • Transport the college bank deposit.
  • Wear issued uniform and carry appropriate credentials while on duty.
  • Complete routine operational procedures during each shift.
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested or assigned.
  • High school graduation or GED required.
  • Previous security agency experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain calm and order during emergencies.
  • Demonstration of a working knowledge of computers, especially MS Word.
  • Ability to be certified in first aid, CPR, and tourniquets.
  • Must be able to become certified as a crowd manager.
  • Successful completion of a physical examination, drug screen, and background check.
  • No criminal record.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid Maryland driver's license.
  • Must be able to walk on brick sidewalks and across turf, traversing stairs, bending, and stooping.
