The Public Safety Dispatcher position involves operating a radio console, transmitting and receiving radio traffic, documenting information in CAD or on cards, dispatching appropriate personnel and resources, and answering emergency and non-emergency calls from officers, the public, media, and allied agencies. The role requires the use of computer equipment to access information, enter and update various databases, monitor and utilize communications-related equipment, and maintain related logs and files. The dispatcher must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods and work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Consistent punctuality and minimal absences are expected.
