The Public Safety Dispatcher operates voice radio in accordance with rules and regulations set by the Federal Communications Commission and the California Highway Patrol. Responsibilities include relaying All Points Bulletins to mobile units, operating radio/telephone and computer-aided transmitting and receiving equipment, dispatching mobile units, and making requests for emergency services. The dispatcher also makes entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) and communicates messages as directed. They handle 9-1-1 calls, assist the public with road information, and communicate with personnel from other agencies. The position requires participation in mandatory training and on-the-job training for new employees.
