About The Position

Position Summary: The Public Safety Corporal assists in ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors. This role involves responding to incidents and supporting the implementation of safety protocols and emergency procedures. The Public Safety Corporal plays a key role in maintaining a secure environment and acts as a liaison between security staff and the Sergeant.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or education in criminal justice, public safety, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in security or law enforcement, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Previous supervisory experience is a plus.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old to apply.
Exceptions may be considered for individuals under 21 who have: Military experience Law enforcement experience Comparable security experience in a health care environment
Valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications.
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and a SambaSafety risk assessment will be conducted.
Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR.
Candidates must also have no more than 8 points from driving-related infractions, violations, convictions or no more than 15 or more points resulting from any type of non-valid license status (expired, suspended, etc.) on their Samba risk assessment.
Please note: both checks are completed separately and not meeting either requirement will result in disqualification from the pre-boarding process, regardless of the result.
SambaSafety is a third-party system that evaluates overall driving risk based on license status, violations, and driving history.
In addition, employees in positions requiring driving privileges are subject to ongoing monitoring through the SambaSafety continuous driver record monitoring program . This ensures compliance with institutional and safety standards throughout employment.
Successful completion of post-hire entry training course, included but not limited to: CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de-escalation.
Must maintain certification requirements.

Nice To Haves

Certification in healthcare security (e.g., Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO)) or other relevant security certifications is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Assist in the supervision of public safety officers, including scheduling, training, and daily operations.
Provide guidance and support to security personnel, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Act as the shift leader in the absence of higher-ranking officers.
Conduct regular patrols of the healthcare facility to monitor and ensure the security of all areas.
Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, and alarms, providing assistance as needed.
Oversee access control measures, including checking identification and managing visitor access.
Investigate security incidents and prepare detailed reports documenting findings and actions taken.
Assist in the coordination of emergency response efforts, including evacuation and lockdown procedures.
Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, patients, and visitors during incidents to provide guidance and ensure safety.
Participate in the training of public safety officers, ensuring they are well-prepared for their duties.
Conduct safety drills and exercises to enhance the preparedness of security staff and healthcare personnel.
Stay informed about the latest security protocols and best practices in healthcare settings.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and security regulations.
Assist in preparing for and participating in regulatory inspections and audits.
Maintain accurate records of security activities and incidents for regulatory and internal review.
Operate and monitor security systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems.
Report any malfunctions or issues with security equipment to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
Assist in the implementation of new security technologies and upgrades.
Provide a visible and approachable security presence, offering assistance and information to patients, visitors, and staff.
Address concerns and complaints related to security in a professional and courteous manner.
Promote a positive image of the public safety department through effective communication and service.
