About The Position

A corporal serves as an experienced officer who performs all the duties of a Public Safety Officer but also takes on supervisory tasks, acts as a Field Training Officer (FTO), and can assume sergeant's duties in their absence.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction.
  • High school diploma/GED and associate's degree in relevant discipline preferred.
  • Five (5) years' experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or other related position preferred.
  • Ability to obtain within an established timeframe IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety) series of security certifications: CHSO (Certified Healthcare Security Officer), CAHSO (Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer), CHSS (Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor).
  • Significant related experience may be accepted in lieu of education or formal training.

Responsibilities

  • Uses appropriate problem-solving approach to plan services.
  • Evaluates situations, intervenes appropriately when required and adequately performs job specific services.
  • Responds expeditiously to all emergencies.
  • Collects, documents, and safely secures lost and found items.
  • Collects, documents, and safely secures patient valuables.
  • Makes decisions based upon reason.
  • Reviews reports, interprets data.
  • Works in conjunction with related departments (emergency), and nursing management in the lockdown process, including initiation and lifting of the lockdown.
  • Acts as incident lead with ongoing security incidents upon arrival, including requesting additional resources and actions as needed.
  • Assists in developing short- and long-term security initiatives to further progress the department and promote a safe environment for all.
  • Creates and develops shift level safety and security related goals and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Continuously evaluates departmental policies to identify opportunities based on real time data.
  • Assists with initial camera footage request, assuring they are received by management.
  • Assists with initial access control request.
  • Assists with other related security department processes as identified by management.
  • Provides services with consideration of the recipient's needs.
  • Responds to the needs of patients, visitors and staff members when assistance is needed.
  • Assists and controls visitors as required.
  • Answers maintenance calls when required.
  • Escorts employees and visitors to their cars as requested.
  • Delivers mail and makes bank deposits.
  • Responds in person for security service calls and to all emergency situations during assigned shift.
  • Assists with patient restraints.
  • Investigates and reports on all theft and vandalism.
  • Reports illegally parked vehicles.
  • Uses equipment and supplies correctly.
  • Operates and maintains two-way radios in a professional manner using appropriate language and proper codes.
  • Correctly uses and monitors Guard1Wand System.
  • Correctly utilizes and maintains all department vehicles.
  • Monitors CVT equipment and reports repairs needed immediately.
  • Uses appropriate safety and infection control measures.
  • Understands and complies with hospital infection control / safety rules.
  • Tours hospital, grounds, parking lots, and all outbuildings checking for leaks, fire, strange noises, unlocked doors, trespassers, and suspicious individuals/activities.
  • Teaches/directs/advises/informs others in an appropriate manner.
  • Advises public safety agencies which come on-site of departmental and organization policies.
  • Attends departmental meetings regularly and contributes information, concerns, suggestions, etc. to enhance the department.
  • Directs work of security staff and handles all situations in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for all staffing aspects of assigned shift.
  • Performs all personnel evaluations for assigned shift.
  • Assists in hiring processes for new staff and subsequent onboarding.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with related department staff and managers.
  • Assists in developing and overseeing field training processes.
  • Ensures all security officer duties are performed in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Acts as liaison with local law enforcement and other related entities during security incidents or other related matters.
  • Reports/records information appropriately.
  • Prepares handwritten reports, required documents, and completes all shift duties.
  • Conducts and/or ensures minimum rounding is completed at facility.
  • Conducts shift briefing reports and disseminates information to the oncoming shift and management as necessary.
  • Notifies management of serious security incidents and other related matters.
  • Develops and analyzes departmental activity reports to identify opportunities in security resource deployment and duties at the shift level.
  • Develops other department related reports as requested by management.
  • Performs light maintenance duties as required.
  • Ensures security offices are neat and orderly.
  • Ensures security vehicle fleet is neat, orderly, and regular maintenance is completed.
  • Assists with assigned staff equipment issuance, inventory, and maintenance.
  • Assists with routine maintenance in other department related areas as requested by management.
