About The Position

The Public Relations Manager for the City of San Antonio is responsible for planning and executing media and community relations programs aimed at fostering a positive public image of the City. This role involves managing various communications media, coordinating public relations efforts, and supervising assigned staff. The position requires a strong background in journalism and public relations, with a focus on bilingual communication skills, particularly in Spanish.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years of experience in journalism.
  • Experience in public relations and bilingual (Spanish) skills highly desirable.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, administers, and coordinates public relations and advertising programs related to the City of San Antonio.
  • Develops executive summaries of studies for distribution to the public and the media.
  • Arranges press conferences and develops programs for public tours of City facilities.
  • Prepares literature and brochures on the City of San Antonio and related developments.
  • Attends public meetings to obtain and impart necessary information concerning assigned department.
  • Promotes goodwill through publicity efforts such as speeches, exhibits, films, and tours.
  • Prepares written proposals for capital improvement projects to foundations and corporations.
  • Implements promotional programs involving the news media in departmental programs.
  • Coordinates City ceremonial events, facility grand openings, and dedications.
  • Manages the production of various publications to promote the department and the City.
  • Supervises the maintenance of resource files, mailing lists, and statistical data on the department.
  • Works with other City departments and local groups on related activities.
  • Makes sales calls on media to place articles on San Antonio, which may involve travel.
  • Supervises and edits publications aimed at various markets and compiles statistical reports for the Commission.
  • Edits press releases and represents the department during community projects and public gatherings.
  • Facilitates media access during emergencies and may supervise assigned staff.
