About The Position

The Public Relations Manager will work in various capacities throughout the Communications Department, helping effectively inform all Baltimore Ravens stakeholders of the organization’s football, corporate and community endeavors. The Manager assists each member of the Communications team by carrying out all related activities that involve working with Ravens staff, players, coaches and media members. The Manager will lead the department’s gameday credentialing process; assist with football communications efforts (with emphasis on helping oversee the Ravens’ NFLOMG.com media site and contributing to various team publications); play a key role in strategic/corporate communications initiatives; and collaborate cross-functionally with business and football staff to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in communications, journalism, sports management or related field
  • Minimum four years working in sports communications
  • Experience in dealing with and/or representing elite athletes
  • Proficient computer skills with experience using InDesign, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and various football statistical websites (e.g. TruMedia, NFLGSIS, StatsPass, Pro Football Reference)
  • High-character individual with excellent communication, interpersonal and public relations skills
  • Must be able to work in a high-pressure environment under strict time deadlines
  • Must be a team player with strong self and group awareness, and someone who operates with a customer service focus
  • Supreme attention to detail in all aspects of operation
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to interact effectively with all types of people, including staff and management, professional and elite athletes, members of the media, government officials and corporate partners

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute gameday credentialing and parking operations, in coordination with the team’s Credential Committee.
  • Draft and thoroughly edit press releases, media advisories, talking points, statements and internal communications materials pertaining to football, community and corporate matters.
  • Oversee the Ravens’ online media site (NFLOMG), including design, functionality and advancement; help write/edit player bios and update the team/player records section on a weekly basis.
  • Assist in producing content for the weekly game release/information packet and annual media guide – contributing both content (team and player notes/highlights) and layout/design elements.
  • Arrange and facilitate interviews with players, coaches and front office staff when needed. Prepare players and coaches for interviews, with emphasis on developing talking points for assistant coaches.
  • Support corporate- and community-related communications programming, with an emphasis on pitching non-traditional media stories and building relationships with pertinent stakeholders; aggregate and maintain a database for non-traditional media outlets and monitor event coverage using the Critical Mention platform.
  • Manage and grow the department’s X account (@Ravens_Comms), playing a lead role in formulating regular content on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Oversee the team’s transcription process for all press conferences and media availabilities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for training facility (UAPC) media access; coordinate distribution/collection of credentials, with assistance from the department’s interns.
  • Help produce content for the annual team yearbook and in-season gameday programs.
  • Work closely with the Public Relations Interns, assisting the Sr. Director of Public Relations in supervision and guidance.
  • Manage the department’s Sports Occupational Advancement Rotation (SOAR) summer internship program, which primarily occurs during training camp.
  • Maintain a thorough internal report highlighting media fulfillments that are facilitated/executed by the department.
  • Interact and facilitate information with the media and opposing PR staff to ensure excellent representation of the Ravens organization.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for all credentialed individuals.
  • Manage the department’s gameday staff that consists of five to seven people.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with the Ravens’ press box catering vendor.
  • Help track stats, team and player milestones during the game.
  • Oversee the team’s post-game transcription process.
  • Travel with the team to road games as required.
