About The Position

The Public Relations and Education Specialist supports digital access and education in the communities we serve by delivering inclusive technology and Internet training to members, employees, and community partners. The position leads in-person and virtual workshops, builds community relationships, and serves as a public-facing resource on digital literacy and online safety, with a focus on supporting seniors and first-time Internet users. Working collaboratively with internal teams, the role develops clear, accessible training and messaging that promote Internet adoption, community engagement, and safe technology use.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of computers, mobile devices, Internet services, and common workplace and consumer technology tools

  • Two or four-year degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Education, Adult Education, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Community Education, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience in training, communications, digital literacy education, or community outreach.
  • Proven experience as a corporate trainer, communications specialist, or similar hybrid role.
  • Strong knowledge of computers, workplace applications, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Excellent public speaking, presentation, and writing skills, with the ability to translate technical topics into plain, engaging language. Proven ability to communicate with senior learners and develop effective training manuals for them.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for both training (e-learning, presentations) and PR (media monitoring, social platforms).

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in training, IT, or cybersecurity (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Certified Technical Trainer).
  • Background in public relations, communications, or training.
  • Previous experience speaking at industry events or creating customer-facing educational campaigns.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design models.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions with members on computer systems, workplace technology tools, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Help drive Internet adoption to potential members without CTC Internet today. Educate seniors and those without Internet on basic usage opportunities by having internet at home.
  • Develop promotions and content to help drive Internet take rates for CTC training.
  • Create and update training materials, manuals, e-learning modules, and customer guides.
  • Support employees and customers with post-training follow-ups to ensure retention and effective application of skills.
  • Create an online training library for members, keep content up to date and relevant.
  • Partner with IT and HR to ensure training aligns with compliance, company policies, and evolving security standards.
  • Provide training and messaging guidance to internal staff who engage with customers or external partners.
  • Develop internal training guides for Member Services and Service Assurance Technicians as needed.
  • Assist with new product roll out training for CTC team members.
  • Actively pursue new and existing partnerships with community stakeholders to develop and implement technology and digital education programs.
  • Prepare, coordinate and facilitate online and digital member programming and education.
  • Act as a public-facing representative of the company on technology and cyber safety topics.
  • Partner with marketing to create clear, engaging communications and materials for external audiences
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to craft consistent messaging and highlight company initiatives in digital safety.
  • Attend, host, and facilitate seminars with community organizations, workplace groups, professional associations or the general public.
  • Deliver digital literacy training sessions covering topics such as: Basic computer, tablet, and smartphone use Email setup and usage Internet browsing and online search Online safety and fraud prevention Video calling tools (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) Social media basics Using online services (telehealth, banking, government services) Cybersecurity 101
  • Create a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Partner with leadership and departments to develop messaging strategies that align with business goals.
  • Serve as a bridge between training, IT, and communications teams to ensure consistent, customer-friendly narratives.
  • Gather feedback from customers and employees to improve both training content and public relations messaging.
  • Prepare and submit monthly analytics on community and education activities.
  • Provide feedback to the product team on existing and potential new product lines.
  • Attend community events representing CTC in our membership areas.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with all CTC departments and with the general public.
  • Adheres to confidentiality policies to protect customer financial and personal information.
  • Maintains a professional appearance that aligns with CTC’s brand and industry standards.
  • Completes other duties assigned by management.
