About The Position

Orrick’s Public Policy Group is seeking a Strategist to join our highly innovative 50-state government affairs team. This is a hybrid position that could be based in New York, Washington DC or Sacramento and consideration given for 100% remote US locations. The Opportunity: Orrick's State Legislative Practice is looking for a highly motivated government affairs professional who has demonstrated grit and specializes in innovative solutions to join our nationally recognized group. Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience developing and managing campaigns in state legislatures; or at least 3–4 years of experience working for elected official leadership at the state or federal level.
  • Working knowledge of state legislative processes and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and shifting deadlines.
  • Strong writing skills, with experience drafting legislative updates, briefing materials, and internal memos.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working as part of a team.
  • Professional judgment and discretion when handling sensitive matters.

Nice To Haves

  • Juris Doctor not required.

Responsibilities

  • Report to partners and other senior members of Public Policy Group and have direct responsibility for developing and coordinating all aspects of state legislative c.
  • Hire and manage in-state lobbyists, PR firms, and other consultants.
  • Develop innovative multi-state and state-specific strategies to help our clients achieve their objectives in state legislatures around the country.
  • Provide political expertise on activities critical to achieving client objectives, including preparation and management of a client’s political budget.
  • Prepare messaging and draft advocacy materials, testimony, grassroots and media content; develop and oversee grassroots and media campaigns.
  • Travel with or on behalf of clients to meet with legislators and their staff. to state capitols or multi-state political and policy conferences.
  • Provide research, writing, and business development support to the Public Policy Group.
