We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and detail-oriented Public Policy Analyst or Senior Public Policy Analyst to join our collective efforts to create a connected and powerful nonprofit community that has what it needs to champion the public good. The Public Policy Analyst or Senior Public Policy Analyst promotes the policy objectives of the National Council of Nonprofits, as outlined in the organization’s Public Policy Agenda, and our network of state and regional nonprofit associations through a combination of policy research and analysis, advocacy, action, network support, and communications activities. Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in policy, communications, or a related field.
  • For a Public Policy Analyst position, two to five years of experience in relevant public policy work. For a Senior Public Policy Analyst position, five to 10 years of experience in relevant public policy work. Experience with federal or state tax policy or government grants and contracting is a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, especially writing and listening, with great attention to detail.
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting on webinars, joint calls, briefings, or conferences.
  • Experience with building and maintaining coalitions, including membership organizations.
  • Deep and steadfast commitment to earning, maintaining, and building trust with people within and outside the organization.
  • Commitment to equity as a personal and professional value.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a vital member of the public policy staff and work collaboratively to help advance NCN’s policy agenda.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the NCN’s core policy areas, including taxes, federal spending, government grants and contracting, workforce development and retention, civic engagement, and oversight and transparency.
  • Track, identify, advocate, and report on legislative, regulatory, and public opinion trends.
  • Research and draft high-quality policy materials, including regulatory comments, issue briefs, fact sheets, memoranda, and blog posts to inform policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Draft, review, and recommend changes to policies, regulations, and legislation.
  • Work directly with NCN state association members to help increase their policy knowledge, capacity, and impact.
  • Represent NCN at internal and external meetings, coalitions, and conferences as assigned.
  • Help prepare articles for our Champion newsletter for bi-weekly publication.
  • Support NCN’s policy initiatives and advocacy efforts, including the annual Capitol Hill Day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
