About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Field Services Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. Employees in this classification perform work of a specialized nature, involving skills and knowledge of operations which have been previously acquired. Essential job functions include: locating and marking underground infrastructure to ensure these assets are properly identified and protected from construction-related damage; providing technical assistance by responding to emergency situations; and exchanging information with customers and contractors concerning the disposition of projects and/or work activities. The incumbent may act alone or as a lead worker of a small crew which performs various duties related to locating, marking, and maintaining City's infrastructure. Crew members work near one another to complete a job which requires a cooperative effort. The Public Infrastructure Technician must have a thorough knowledge of all procedures and equipment used at the job site and must frequently perform these procedures under emergency conditions while maintaining safety procedures. Work may include contact with the public, contractors, outside utilities agencies, and other department personnel. Quality of work will be measured by review of customer satisfaction, daily reports, and inspections by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of public infrastructure systems and ability to troubleshoot system issues.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using tools and detection equipment necessary to locate underground infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of and skill in following procedures for locating and marking underground infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of procedures used in first response to customer concerns.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to follow worker safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand technical data such as maps, engineering plans, and as-builts drawings.
  • Ability to accurately obtain and record information in computerized systems.
  • Ability to calculate collection/distribution system flow rates.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate with contractors and the public using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform work duties while under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to provide training and/or technical assistance to coworkers.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for work performed.
  • Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).
