About The Position

The Public Information Specialist at the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Library Services is responsible for managing internal and external communications, enhancing the library's visibility, and fostering relationships with various stakeholders. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive communication plan, overseeing social media efforts, and producing various publications to promote library programs and events.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, education or related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications, public or media relations, and/or marketing.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in communications including print and social media.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories associated with journalism, media, and/or public relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems creatively and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information clearly and accurately in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and graphic design software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Professionally crafts and manages internal and external communication of the library.
  • Works with library leadership to conceptualize, develop and implement the library's communication plan.
  • Collaborates with the UH Communications Office to disseminate library information and stories.
  • Provides assistance, information, and guidance to library faculty, staff, and students on communication.
  • Sets the direction for social media efforts at the library in collaboration with the Social Media Committee.
  • Provides content for the library's website, video channels, and social media distribution venues.
  • Facilitates production and publication of the library's annual report, newsletters, videos, and other publications.
  • Develops, writes and disseminates News Releases for the library.
  • Communicates, promotes, and coordinates library exhibits.
  • Oversees library's internal weekly update announcements.
  • Assists with library special events.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
