About The Position

The Public Information Specialist position is a career service role within the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Department of Financial Services in Tallahassee, Florida. This position is responsible for working independently with the Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office to collect and publicize their accomplishments. The specialist will coordinate announcements and events regarding first responders, draft media responses, and monitor social media related to agency law enforcement and firefighters across the state. Additionally, the role includes providing administrative support for the Communications Office as needed.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of experience working at a state agency, in the communications field, or with law enforcement is preferred.
  • A postsecondary degree from an accredited college or university in political science or communications may be used as an alternative for years of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be able to make day trips across the state on a regular basis.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to set up speaking engagements and prepare or coordinate preparation of slides/graphics for presentations.
  • Ability to develop public events and compose speeches for various organizations.
  • Ability to review and resolve complaints and analyze consumer complaints.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook, database, and email.

  • Previous experience working at a state agency, in the communications field, or with law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Independently work with the Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office to collect content and publicize accomplishments.
  • Coordinate announcements and events regarding first responders with the Press Secretary and Communications Director.
  • Make connections with local fire departments and coordinate events for the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Draft responses to media regarding the Criminal Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
  • Monitor social media related to agency law enforcement and firefighters across the state.
  • Provide administrative support for the Communications Office on an as-needed basis.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $48,000.00 - $58,000.00 annually.
  • Paid on a monthly pay cycle.
