About The Position

The Public Information Officer (PIO) will manage and implement internal and external communications activities for the McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT).

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree (Highly preferred) in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field; or equivalent experience working in communications; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • 2-3 years' experience in related field.
  • Experience in developing multi-media work products with emphasis on writing and producing publications such as presentations, videos, or brochures.
  • Preferred knowledge of government and/or transportation related services and projects.
  • Emphasis on strategic communication, digital or social media courses/experience is desired.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of FEMA's Basic Public Information Officer Course E/L/K105
  • Part 107 Drone License

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a spokesperson for the MCDOT.
  • Communicates with residents, businesses, organizations, government communicators, etc. via all media forms, including email, phone, social media sites, and McHenry County Division of Transportation website.
  • Plan, develop, design and produce a wide variety of marketing, recruiting materials, reports, displays, flyers, multi-media projects, etc. for external and internal use.
  • Serves as the Adopt-A-Highway Liaison.
  • Serves as the Social Media Specialist. Develops and administers content to promote services, activities and programs; formulates communications policies; monitors visitors posts and practices social listening. Develop social media campaigns for special events. Identify new ways to use social media to identify, cultivate, and drive engagement with McHenry County residents.
  • Create, manage and execute day-to-day social media strategy, content and campaigns on social channels with guidance as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
