About The Position

As a Public Health Specialist II (Accreditation Specialist) you will work collaboratively with leadership at the Steuben County Health Department to advance Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) standards and strengthen overall performance through Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Management (PM) initiatives. This position provides professional and technical support to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and alignment with state and national public health goals. The Public Health Specialist II (Accreditation Support) is responsible for coordinating accreditation readiness activities, organizing documentation, and supporting the department’s continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • This position is intended to execute complex tasks independently as well as coordinate the tasks of other team members.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. Experience in clinical medicine and/or public health a plus.
  • At least one year of experience within a health, public health, education, human services, or community-based organization, or institutional setting.
  • Experience working in a health system in NYS. This includes but is not limited to hospitals, health care providers, health regulatory organizations, community resources, social services, or schools in NYS.
  • A flexible, adaptive, and composed attitude with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience leading tracking and reporting processes.
  • Proficiency with computers including data entry into electronic tracking systems and running summary reports.
  • Phenomenal work ethic with a positive attitude.
  • Employment is contingent on completion of a background check by NY State.
  • Must be a NYS resident with familiarity of NYS geography; cities/towns/locations.
  • Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (WiFi), and electronic equipment.
  • Must have access to a working PC with Windows 10, Antivirus Protection: Windows Defender and Windows Firewall; or Mac with Apple OS X 10.13, Antivirus Protection: Sophos; and personal mobile device to use for this job.

  • Candidates with the ability to work on-site or in a hybrid capacity at the Steuben County Health Department are preferred.
  • Preference given to those who live within commuting distance to the official work location.
  • Under the federal laws relating to the F-1 STEM EAD program, SSO may be able to support a STEM EAD extension application at the sole discretion of your Designated School Official. This does not guarantee that any STEM EAD extension application will be approved.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and maintain PHAB accreditation documentation and supporting evidence of compliance.
  • Contribute to the development and updates of the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) by organizing data, tracking milestones, and compiling reports.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Management (PM) projects, including documentation and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Prepare reports, data summaries, and presentations related to Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) and other grant-funded deliverables.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating accreditation and QI meetings, trainings, and communication with internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with NYSDOH, community organizations, and county partners to align accreditation activities with broader public health objective
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support accreditation and public health program goals.
