About The Position

The Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami will manage and supervise research projects, mentor students, and collaborate with faculty to advance knowledge and education in public health. This role involves conducting scientific research, managing lab operations, and engaging in educational activities within the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent area.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques.
• Some experience in running a lab, funded research projects, and/or supervising post-docs.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse constituency.
• Computer literacy.
• Successful academic and research work resulting in authorship in peer-reviewed journals.
• Ability to develop collaborative research projects consistent with the mentor's research plan.
• Ability to teach in laboratory settings and through presentations.
• Successful track record of research projects and contributions to grant applications.

Responsibilities

• Manage research projects and supervise interns, undergraduate, or graduate students.
• Conduct, collaborate, and manage scientific research and investigations.
• Participate in the management of daily lab operations.
• Conduct regular lab meetings.
• Supervise, mentor, and manage postdoctoral fellows and graduate students engaged in collaborative research projects.
• Explore and develop research collaborations within the Department and across the University.
• Collect and analyze data for research purposes.
• Write and submit scientific papers, abstracts, and grant proposals.
• Present ongoing work and findings at academic and research conferences.
• Participate in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Junior Development Program.
• Work closely with the BBSR Director on data analysis of various research studies.
• Support data management and data sharing activities.
• Participate in educational activities through seminars and lectures.
