The Department of Public Health and Recreation (PHR) at SJSU is a multidisciplinary academic department that awards B.S. degrees in Public Health and Recreation, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The PHR Department is one of the largest departments within the College of Health and Human Sciences. The PHR department offers a general Bachelor’s degree in Public Health and two concentrations: Community Health Education and Population Data Science. Our graduate program is a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a specialization in Community Health Education. In the PHR Department, our faculty strive to offer students high quality learning experiences that are rooted in hands-on, applied learning. We aim to recruit new faculty who share our commitment to student centered learning, academic success, and professional and workforce development. Brief Description of Duties Teach courses in undergraduate and/or graduate Public Health programs Participate in ongoing assessment of student learning to continuously improve teaching and learning experiences and to adhere to accreditation requirements Work collaboratively with colleagues on public health curriculum-related processes such as teaching multi-section courses to ensure the quality, rigor, relevance, and consistency of our curricula Attend team meetings and training sessions as required Establish and maintain a high quality learning environment that is inclusive, student-centered, and contemporarily relevant Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their (campus, remote, and hybrid) classes The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
