About The Position

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW), is seeking a Public Health Program Director 2 to work with the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Section. The program director will address the smoking cessation support for Tennessee residents with the highest burden of tobacco and vape use by supporting the implementation of evidence-based interventions, convening stakeholders, and incorporating epidemiologic data to reduce the incidence and burden statewide. This hybrid position has in-person attendance expected for the first day of employment for equipment deployment and onboarding in Nashville. Required in-person attendance for quarterly meetings, and other in-person attendance may be required for other meetings and professional development opportunities so candidate must reside in the Nashville area. Travel to Nashville will not be reimbursed, however, travel for site visits may be reimbursed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public health, education, or a related field and experience equivalent to five (5) or more years of full-time, increasingly responsible professional health program work, including at least two (2) years of full-time supervisory work or statewide program oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Providing subject matter expertise related to the identification, implementation, and evaluation of tobacco and vaping cessation programs.
  • Supervising the Pregnancy Smoking Cessation Program Director 1.
  • Developing and delivering training and orientation for new program staff.
  • With guidance, growing and supporting the implementation of the nicotine replacement therapy program in the local and metro health departments, and other funded partners.
  • Overseeing, managing, and developing contracts with the Quitline service provider, the Tennessee Primary Care Association, and other new cessation-related contracts.
  • Participating in budget development and monitoring to ensure appropriate expenditure of funds.
  • Providing technical assistant to grantees and partners across the state who are delivering evidence-based tobacco and vape use cessation programs.
  • Communicating program procedures to staff and stakeholders.
  • Planning and implementing diverse professional development opportunities which meet grantee needs.
  • Collecting and maintaining accurate grantee data and other related statistical information for state and federal reporting.
  • Producing and disseminating tobacco control resources and materials.
  • Working with the tobacco epidemiologists to use data to enhance community tobacco control program planning.
  • Engaging community stakeholders in tasks related to accomplishing goals and objectives of the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program.
  • Participating in regular division, section, and TUPCP program meetings.
