About The Position

The Brattleboro District Office of Vermont Department of Health has an opportunity for an experienced and motivated Nutritionist who wants to make a difference in the health of families in Windham County. We are seeking a well-organized and compassionate Nutritionist with great communication skills to complete our public health team in the Brattleboro District Office. The Nutritionist III oversees the local implementation of the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) while providing supervision to nutrition staff. This role also provides direct nutrition services to WIC families and builds collaborative partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and the Vermont WIC Central Office team. The position participates as part of a multidisciplinary public health team, including emergency preparedness efforts. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Public Health Services District Director. This position maintains a consistent physical presence in the office and community to support program operations and community partnerships with at least 3 days in-office each week with the option to telework the other days. Requirements

  • Master's degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND one (1) year of experience in public health nutrition or community health nutrition including one (1) year or more at a supervisory level OR leading a group or team.
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, nutritional sciences, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition AND three (3) years or more of experience in public health nutrition or community health nutrition including one (1) year or more at a supervisory level OR leading a group or team.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (R.D./R.D.N).
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Exam-eligible IBCLC.
  • One year or more experience in breastfeeding/chestfeeding counseling for pregnant and postpartum dyads.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise WIC staff
  • Oversee administration and quality of district nutrition services in accordance with federal and state guidelines
  • Conduct nutrition and health status needs assessments and develop subsequent implementation, quality improvement, and training plans
  • Participate in statewide initiatives that promote the Vermont Department of Health's goals
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships
  • Provide direct nutrition services to WIC families
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in nutrition practices, ensuring staff are supported with current, evidence-based guidance.
