The Public Health Nurse position at the Health Department involves performing professional nursing and administrative work to provide and organize various health programs and services. The nurse will investigate and report cases of possible communicable diseases to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and follow up on disease reports. Responsibilities include maintaining a supply of vaccines for distribution to local hospitals, clinics, and private practices, administering vaccines, and conducting flu clinics for municipal employees at high risk for Hepatitis B. The nurse will also act as the case manager for all active TB cases in the City and serve as a resource for practitioners regarding TB control and prevention. Evaluating newly arrived immigrants and refugees with suspected TB and enforcing isolation and quarantine regulations are also key duties. The role requires knowledge of public health nursing principles, communicable diseases, and applicable regulations, along with excellent communication and public relation skills.
