About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Central Virginia Health District consist seeks to fill a PHN Manager Sr. position based at the Lynchburg Health Department. The Senior Public Health Nurse Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating comprehensive public health nursing services including managing clinic operations, supervising nursing staff, and overseeing related program delivery across multiple sites. The position is also responsible for working with other leaders within the health district to improve a broad range of public health outcomes. Health Care Personnel: VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination. Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of nursing management, public health nursing, and practices of public health
  • Proven ability to provide effective leadership and operations management; ability to direct subordinate nurse managers and supervisors in achieving agency objectives
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication, community assessment, planning, and staff development
  • Considerable ability to collaboratively lead staff, synthesize and interpret data, and communicate effectively with staff, patients, and the public; ability to monitor and evaluate quality assurance of nursing programs; ability to present results and nursing outcomes to internal and external constituencies
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification is required
