The position of Public Health Nurse III involves performing advanced Public Health nursing work in both clinical and non-clinical settings with limited supervision. The role includes implementing training and quality assurance measures, overseeing a remote public health clinic, and providing training in community-focused public health nursing. The nurse will also participate in the development and evaluation of performance standards and will act as the regional point of contact for employee health matters. This position requires independent travel throughout Texas and participation in public health emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity.
  • Minimum of five years working experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one-year supervisory experience within the past three years.
  • Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver’s license or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for public health nursing services in PHR 2/3.
  • Leads recruitment, training, development, and retention of nursing and administrative staff.
  • Completes human resource functions including daily supervision of clinic staff and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with HHS Human Resource policy across assigned clinics.
  • Provides training and continuous quality improvement for DSHS staff.
  • Conducts annual assessments for exposure to tuberculosis and provides appropriate testing.
  • Provides public health clinic services including immunizations and community education.
  • Acts as the Local Responsible Party for data security and confidentiality.
  • Participates in regional assignments and public health emergency response.
