As a Public Health Nurse II, you’ll play a vital role in preventing disease, promoting wellness, and delivering essential nursing services in both clinical and community settings.

Requirements

  • Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.
  • Submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
  • Maintain current registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct clinical and consultative public health nursing services to individuals, families, and groups.
  • Provide health education, immunizations, and screenings to promote early detection and disease prevention.
  • Conduct epidemiological investigations and provide testing, diagnosis, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections under Medical Standing Orders.
  • Offer HIV counseling and testing, and provide education on nutrition, family planning, growth and development, and chronic disease management.
  • Assess and evaluate client needs, developing care plans and making referrals as appropriate.
  • Deliver nursing services in diverse environments including homes, schools, community centers, senior facilities, and public health clinics.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, client-focused care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation using Countywide and department-specific software systems.
