About The Position

The PHN II is responsible for coordinating Communicable Disease and Tuberculosis programs. This role focuses on promoting prevention and education to help control the spread of communicable diseases within Sampson County. The PHN II will serve as a coordinator for services related to communicable disease prevention, education, awareness, and treatment. Additionally, this position will support sexually transmitted disease (STD) and adult health clinic programs by providing backup services in an expanded role. The PHN II plays a key role in the control and prevention of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis, and will also assist in clinical operations and provide backup support for adult health clinic services.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of and skills in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs
  • Considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed
  • General knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others
  • Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgement in appraising situations and making decisions
  • Ability to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information, and to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instruction
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N. C. Board of Nursing
  • Individuals without a B.S.N degree will be required to complete the "Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing" course within one year of employment as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Health Services Commission Rule
