This position functions under the Community Health Services Manager with direct supervision by the 6/5S Nurse Manager III under the general direction of standing delegation orders of the Regional Medical Director. The role utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delivering and evaluating population based, specialized public health nursing services. Travel is required throughout a seven-county region, with routine assignments in various locations, primarily focusing on Liberty county. Services are provided to individuals, families, groups and communities with health needs ranging from simple to complex, focusing on the promotion of optimum wellness and disease prevention. The Public Health Nurse I is required to collaborate with other regional programs on community health and communicable disease team initiatives. The role participates in coordinating day-to-day operations of clinic services and provides planning/direction for the assigned community health services team. It requires extensive individual initiative in instituting, monitoring and evaluating projects, and the ability to practice autonomously, provide guidance to other nurses, offer technical assistance to local providers, and deliver preventive and some limited treatment services. The ability to manage time and prioritize daily assigned duties is essential.
