About The Position

The Public Health Manager is responsible for developing and managing community-based public health programs aimed at disease prevention and health promotion. This role involves overseeing specific public health initiatives from planning through implementation and evaluation, while acting as a liaison between various health and human services entities and the City of Flint. The position requires collaboration with stakeholders and handling sensitive information, ensuring effective communication and operational efficiency within the public health department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in Health Care Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in grant writing and program management.
  • One or more years of public sector experience working with community groups.

  • Knowledge of the local public health system.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a manager over the Public Health department.
  • Acts as a liaison between City Administration and the Public Health department, community partners, and the general public.
  • Works with city staff and community partners on grant applications and reports.
  • Supervises sub-departments within the Public Health department.
  • Implements public health programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Creates and maintains partnerships with community organizations.
  • Maintains records and tracks progress of public health activities.
  • Creates statistical reports and correspondence for appropriate entities.
  • Acts as a board member on health-related organizational boards.
  • Performs research and compiles data into reports.
  • Builds effective communication with various stakeholders through multiple communication channels.
  • Arranges and attends meetings, ensuring compliance with the Open Meetings Act.
  • Co-facilitates operations at Flint City Hall customer service counter.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with employees and the public.
  • Performs duties accurately and quickly under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Assists with departmental budget preparation and control.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
