About The Position

The Public Health Intern position at AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a temporary full-time role designed for students interested in the field of Public Health, particularly in HIV/AIDS and PrEP. The internship program will run from June 2nd to August 29th, and interns must be available for the entire duration. AHF is the largest specialized provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the nation, and the internship will provide valuable insights into various programs, including AHF's national PrEP program and the Brooklyn PHD Wellness program, which offers free HIV/STI testing, STI treatment, and PrEP services. Interns will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from senior staff while working directly with communities at risk for HIV and other STDs.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time student at an accredited 4-year college or postgraduate
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher majoring in a Healthcare degree or related field
  • Must commit to the full duration of the program and full-time hours
  • Must have exceptional computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Gain understanding of AHF's national PrEP program
  • Support rapid performance processes with AHF's national PrEP Program
  • Gain understanding of the AHF Global Wellness Center model
  • Support rapid performance improvement processes with AHF's Global Wellness Centers in Latin America, Africa, and Asia
  • Gain familiarity with community-based HIV/STI testing and PrEP programs
  • Support the PrEP programs at Brooklyn Wellness and the Northern Bureau by conducting client retention activities
  • Work directly with communities at risk for contracting HIV and other STDs
  • Be exposed to different cultures and communities and learn how they affect health behaviors and outcomes
  • Work with a dynamic, diverse, and dedicated staff
  • Participate in Pride events
  • Shadow and be mentored by the Senior Director of Model Implementation and the Regional Director of Public Health for the Northern Bureau
