The Public Health Epidemiologist - Environmental Health position at the Kent County Health Department is a full-time role focused on addressing critical environmental health issues such as Lead, PFAS, and Vapor Intrusion. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, providing essential health surveillance and coordinating specimen collection. This role requires exercising legal authorities when applicable and effectively communicating with residents and health providers. The epidemiologist will act as the primary intermediary with other agencies, ensuring a collaborative approach to public health challenges. In addition to these responsibilities, the epidemiologist will identify evidence-based practices and formulate prevention activities. They will assess progress towards established goals and organize community groups to facilitate public health initiatives. The role also involves preparing and delivering comprehensive reports and presentations to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and other stakeholders. A key aspect of this position is identifying potential sources of program funding and developing proposals to secure financial support for public health initiatives. Candidates for this position should possess a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Bio-medical Statistics, or a related field, along with four years of progressively responsible epidemiology experience. A Master's degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of epidemiological principles, the etiology of communicable and chronic diseases, and applied statistics. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interact positively with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Familiarity with GIS software is also preferred.
