About the position

The PH Disease Intervention Specialist is with the Communicable Disease Branch and based in our Winterville Regional Field Services Office in Pitt County. The incumbent in this position will have multi-county responsibilities which include performing work efforts to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV infection, conducting personal interviews to obtain case related information, explaining the disease process, treatment, prevention, and legal requirements, analyzing epidemiological information to determine need and priority for follow-up activities, providing education, consultation, and technical assistance to local health departments and private providers on interview techniques, records, treatment procedures, and quality control, performing phlebotomy procedures on suspected cases, and establishing rapport and effective communications with clients and stakeholders from diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, and lived experiences. Incumbent may be eligible for an in-range-adjustment after successful completion of the required training program and is successfully able to work independently. The training timeframe is approximately 6-9 months. This in-range-adjustment is subject to funding availability.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience interviewing or working with individuals with communicable diseases, such as sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS.
  • Proficiency in data entry and experience working with large database systems.
  • Experience with community engagement including community-based organizations or outreach programs.
  • Experience providing health-related services, including health education or delivering test results.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use computers and software (e.g. Microsoft Offices).
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and through written documents.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (e.g., fluency in Spanish).
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
