The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. To achieve this, the Bureau provides direct clinic services to people seeking sexual health care, and services to sex partners; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research and develops policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The BPHC STI (BSTI) operates 8 STI clinics throughout New York City (NYC). The BPHC STI is seeking to hire a Public Health Adviser, L2 to work in the Sexual Health Clinics. This position will be working with the Director of Clinical Operations and provide critical services to New Yorkers seeking sexual health services.

  • Greeting patients seeking sexual health clinic services including ensuring that patients observe adequate social distance guidelines.
  • Administering a COVID19 Health Screening Questionnaire to each patient before possible admission including documenting outcomes of said screening.
  • Referring patients that do not meet our current COVID19 admission criteria to community providers including the DOHMH BSTI Hotline.
  • Providing temperature scans to each patient seeking services in our sexual health clinics.
  • Registering patients into our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and expediting to reduce exposure to coronavirus by limiting the number of interactions between patients and other staff.
  • Assuring that disease intervention and prevention activities are delivered in accordance with bureau policies.
  • Overseeing a caseload of STI clinic patients who are seeking HIV prevention services.
  • Ensuring that the patient is connected to prevention and treatment services and the patient adheres to the established plan of care.
  • Delivering health education and health promotion messages according to STI clinical protocols.
  • Coordinating logistics for plan adherence such as appointment reminders, scheduling, medication adherence, arranging transportation and others as needed.
  • Maintaining liaison with health care providers and others including public and private agencies to expedite the efficient follow up and treatment of patients enrolled in program.
  • Ensuring that patients receive appropriate education and interventions about sexually transmitted infections including appropriate referrals for testing and treatment.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting field investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in the previous point.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • At least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention.
