The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. To achieve its mission, the BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers. BPHC seeks to hire a PH Adviser II. This Public Health Adviser II will report to a Clinic Manager and conduct confidential interview sessions of patients who are diagnosed with or at risk for STDs/HIV to identify and refer for exam and/or treatment.

  • Review with patient their reason for visit and continue services for screening-only patients in the express clinic by entering data into EMR.
  • Counsel patients on the services provided, post results and other information into EMR when applicable.
  • Perform HIV Rapid Screening Tests (INSTI), provide HIV rapid test results in a clinical setting.
  • Prepare specimen collection room and conduct specimen processing daily by labeling, packaging, ordering tests in EMR, and transporting to specific Quickie PHL area in timely manner and maintain inventory of cepheid biological testing kits.
  • Responsible to prepare inventory and supply functions under the direction of express clinic manager with coordination of PHL representative.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting field investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in '2' above.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to '1', '2' or '3' above.
  • Applicant MUST be a permanent Public Health Advisor or show proof of taking the recent Public Health Advisor exam.
