About The Position

The Public Health Administrator 1 - PHIG Program Manager is responsible for overseeing workforce development programs funded by the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG). This role involves managing various initiatives aimed at enhancing public health outcomes, including the New 2 Public Health Residency program and the MPHD internship program. The Program Manager will coordinate internship opportunities, maintain partnerships with external agencies, and ensure effective management of interns and residents, contributing to the growth and development of public health professionals in the community.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and one year of responsible, full-time employment in public administration, teaching, business administration, public health administration, public health nursing, public health education, or other appropriate field.
  • One year of graduate study in public health administration, public administration, or health education may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible experience in public health administration, public administration, public health sanitation, or business administration, with at least one year in an administrative or supervisory capacity within the past three years.
  • Valid driver's license and use of personal vehicle with valid insurance as required by Tennessee Law.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience administering or leading an internship program.
  • Two or more years of experience managing onboarding or orientation programs.
  • Two or more years as a college admissions program manager or coordinator.
  • Knowledge of managerial and administrative principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and personnel procedures.
  • Knowledge of the mission, goals, and services of the health department.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to public health.
  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies and the services they provide.
  • Knowledge of Civil Service and departmental rules and procedures.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate programs and measure their effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and publishes the annual calendar for internship and career opportunities at Metro Public Health (MPHD).
  • Maintains connections with external partner agency programs funded through PHIG or connected to Workforce Development.
  • Manages the Internship Program Cycle, including posting opportunities and screening applicants.
  • Notifies internal partners of program requirements and available opportunities.
  • Oversees onboarding and offboarding for new interns, residents, and students.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally within the department to ensure consistency of workforce development programs.
  • Conducts post-assignment surveys with participants.
  • Develops and maintains annual reports on internship programs at MPHD.
  • Handles administrative tasks including operations control and data gathering for program evaluation.
  • Creates an annual Opportunity Calendar and communicates upcoming internship opportunities within MPHD.
