About The Position

The Investigator I position at the Public Defender's Office, 2nd Circuit, involves conducting investigations to support legal representation for indigent individuals accused of criminal offenses. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in criminology, criminal justice, or other investigative fields
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth client intake interviews
  • Examine State's discovery reports and probable cause affidavits
  • Locate and/or interview witnesses
  • View, photograph, and assess evidence
  • Coordinate court appearances for clients and witnesses
  • Serve subpoenas
  • Conduct background investigations
  • Collect records
  • Testify in court
  • Assist in securing social information for mitigation
  • Use computer-related search and identification programs
  • Other duties as assigned
