About The Position

The Public Benefits Caseworker is a vital role within the Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) Department of Catholic Charities of Louisville, Inc. This position focuses on assisting individuals and families, particularly those from refugee and immigrant backgrounds, in accessing essential public benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, and KTAP/TANF. The caseworker will also implement the KTAP Differential program and connect clients with additional services in the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the social service field, preferably in a multicultural setting.
  • Multilingual skills are preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to varied ethnic populations.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Initiative and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Knowledge of public benefits programs and application processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist new individuals and families in applications for public benefits including KTAP/TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, Child Care Assistance, and WIC, and submit all needed follow-up paperwork on these applications.
  • Track the status of pending applications and follow up on issues with the goal of approval for all eligible applicants.
  • Lead orientations with groups of clients explaining the process of applying for benefits and the rules and regulations of the programs.
  • Enroll clients in the KTAP Differential program, including requesting checks, monitoring compliance, and closing cases.
  • Use problem-solving abilities to improve internal processes and services for individuals and families struggling to access and maintain public benefits.
  • Represent the agency at meetings with DCBS to advocate for the needs of eligible refugee and immigrant populations.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with community partners that serve refugee and immigrant families.
  • Document all services provided in an online database.
  • Assist in writing reports and tracking outcomes for grant purposes.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
