About The Position

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. GRADE 15 LOCATION OF POSITION World Trade Center 401 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21202 Main Purpose of Job The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Art Grants & Project Manager within the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC). This position is primarily responsible for managing public art grant programs and projects for MSAC. Incumbent reports to the Public Art Program Director and works with other staff in the management and administration of public art programs and projects, as well as providing technical assistance, professional development, program evaluation, and collection management tasks. The position supports the administration of the Public Art Across Maryland Grant Programs by: providing technical support to organizations and independent artists to develop grant applications and strengthen the feasibility of local public art projects; assisting in managing projects of the Maryland Public Artwork Commissions capital buildings program working closely with state user agency partners and contracted artists; and assists with collection management by maintaining an updated inventory of public artwork on projects that have received state funding. The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; have the ability to work independently; handle multiple, concurrent, and high priority projects; knowledgeable of the trends, practices related to public art. Experience in administration of grants, contracts, and/or public programs and projects required; experience managing project timelines and coordinating schedules among multiple parties as well as Proficiency with Google Suite (Google Mail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and/or other relevant software.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • 30 college credit hours for up to two years of the required experience involving staff work using independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for required experience .

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree, or commensurate experience, in visual arts, art history, urban design, or arts administration.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in arts-based administration.
  • Experience with a public arts program that included project management.
  • Direct work experience with artists, committees of multiple stakeholders, to include community organizations, design professionals, fabricators and/or contractors.
