About The Position

The Public Affairs Specialist will serve in the Integration & Outreach Division of the Naval History and Heritage Command, focusing on social media and public engagement. This role involves coordinating events, creating content, and analyzing the effectiveness of public affairs initiatives to support the Navy's mission and outreach efforts.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector for GS-11.
  • Experience in providing and creating historically accurate material for social media.
  • Experience in planning, producing, and delivering web-based communication content.
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard software for producing and editing written, photographic, graphic, and video content.
  • Ability to measure the impact of social media posts using benchmarks and key performance indicators.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in analyzing and reporting on the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
  • Knowledge of Navy history and heritage.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with internal and external agencies regarding support for physical, on-site events.
  • Write planning and logistics documents, including key themes and messaging aligned with command mission.
  • Collaborate with the social media team to create event-specific content and determine optimal posting opportunities.
  • Gather materials for audience distribution and display, such as infographic handouts and publications.
  • Execute event plans, including on-site presence and public interaction.
  • Analyze event execution to create after-action reports highlighting interactions and recommendations for future events.
  • Support command-led commemorative activities, such as the Navy Birthday and Battle of Midway.
