About The Position

The Public Affairs Specialist will lead and evaluate communication efforts for the Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of the Navy (DON), focusing on informing and persuading audiences on complex issues. This role involves developing strategic marketing and communication plans, managing public relations, and coordinating information dissemination through various media channels.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.
• At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in communication, public relations, or journalism.
• Experience in developing written materials to encourage public positions on various issues.
• Proficiency in software programs such as Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Suite, and Social Media for campaign development.
• Experience in making oral presentations and training others for public input meetings.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with diverse publics.

Responsibilities

• Shape, lead, and evaluate DOD and DON communication efforts.
• Develop and implement strategic marketing and communication plans.
• Manage public, government, media, community, and leadership relations.
• Oversee brand and reputation management, crisis communication, and employee engagement efforts.
• Lead staff and public affairs stakeholders in planning and response efforts.
• Plan and coordinate the dissemination of information regarding the organization's programs and objectives.
