About The Position

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal government.
• Experience communicating public information policies, programs, and services to internal and external audiences.
• Experience advising on and editing articles and other written materials in consultation with technical supervisors.
• Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with representatives to provide and develop information and respond to legislative questions.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key representatives within FEMA programs and other External Affairs divisions.
• Advise agency managers and senior leaders on the potential external affairs ramifications of proposed policy statements or agency actions.
• Draft, edit, and finalize a variety of products including External Affairs guidance, talking points, speeches, feature articles, OpEds, newsletters, pamphlets, website content, fact sheets, and crisis communication plans.
• Determine appropriate style and form based on subject, intended audience, and individual using the product.
• Deploy to areas within the region for periods up to 90 days or more to support disaster operations.
