About The Position

The Public Affairs & Regulatory Compliance Manager is responsible for leading non-safety related regulatory strategy, ensuring compliance with propane industry standards, and advancing the organization’s public policy objectives. This role serves as a key liaison with regulatory agencies, trade associations such as the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), and government stakeholders. The position will report to the VP of Risk, Safety & Corporate Affairs and requires deep knowledge of propane-related regulations, including hazardous materials transportation, storage, and energy policy, as well as strong advocacy and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in energy, utilities, or propane/LPG industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, government affairs, or environmental health and safety.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, propane operations and Federal and state regulatory frameworks governing propane.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate into operational practices.
  • High attention to detail and ethical judgment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for regulatory meetings, industry conferences, and government offices.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or otherwise authorized to work in the United States.
  • Applicants must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with or alongside propane trade associations preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 54/58 preferred.
  • Background in energy policy, environmental regulation, or fuel distribution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local propane regulations.
  • Develop and maintain compliance programs as applicable, including Low Carbon Fuel Standard and Cap & Trade.
  • Manage regulatory filings, permits, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting the propane industry.
  • Develop advocacy strategies to support favorable policies related to propane.
  • Build relationships with policymakers, regulators, and state propane gas associations.
  • Represent the organization in industry forums, hearings, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Collaborate with trade groups (e.g., NPGA, state propane associations) to influence policy outcomes.
  • Advise leadership on regulatory risks, compliance gaps, and policy changes.
  • Ensure operational alignment with safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Coordinate employee training on regulatory compliance and safety procedures.
