About The Position

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Shop Supervisor, the Transit Management of Alexandria’s (DASH) Service Worker is responsible for servicing all TMA vehicles including all Transit buses and company cars. This position performs a range of duties to include proper cleaning, refueling/charging of vehicles, and supports the day-to-day needs of the facility, grounds, Maintenance department, and TMA operations. The Service Worker is essential in supporting DASH’s mission to ensure that all passengers and operators have a clean and exceptional experience while riding in TMA vehicles. Service Workers may perform these duties under the general guidance of the Supervisor on duty as needed, based on shift and work schedules. The pay rate for this role is $22.82 an hour. This position is part-time, weekends only, 3:30PM to 12:00AM.

  • Must be nimble and able to work in confined spaces.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire a Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and Air-Brake endorsement.
  • Acceptable criminal history record and child protective services check upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Negative pre-employment drug screen results upon hire and as required by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and TMA policy, throughout entirety of employment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of overall driving experience, personal and/or professional preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related vehicle service work experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with basic maintenance repairs and general vehicle inspection preferred.
  • Working experience or ability to work with basic computer software and vehicle maintenance software and programs preferred.
  • Relevant certification or training from a technical school is a preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a range of cleaning service duties including sweeping, emptying trash bins, and ensures the cleanliness and presentation of ATC vehicles.
  • Ensures the timely and efficient refueling and charging of all TMA vehicles, including revenue and non-revenue vehicles.
  • Checks and maintains proper vehicle fluid levels such as oil coolant, transmission, windshield washer, etc., as needed.
  • Responsible for the exterior and interior cleanliness of TMA buses including the following: Proper use of automated bus wash system to clean exterior of TMA buses.
  • Drives vehicles through the bus wash in a slow and safe manner.
  • Ensures all parts of TMA buses are cleaned thoroughly each day and cleaning areas missed by the automated bus wash system.
  • Washes buses manually (when bus wash automated system is inoperable, or on areas otherwise missed by the automated bus was system).
  • Cleans bus wheel rims Sweeps the interior of the TMA buses and ensures all trash is disposed of properly in a waste receptacle.
  • Steam cleans bus engine compartments, radiators, etc. with a steam cleaner.
  • Records and maintains a log of all vehicles cleaned and updates maintenance management as needed.
  • Parks buses in designated parking areas as instructed by the Operations Clerk on duty.
  • Performs and monitors nightly charging of all TMA electric vehicles, including plugging and unplugging dispensers.
  • Utilizes rags, detergents, cleaning chemicals, mops, and mop buckets to perform cleaning duties.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the parking garage and keeps TMA grounds in good order.
  • Performs minor repairs under the guidance and supervision of the maintenance supervisor and/or lead mechanic, as required.
  • Maintains and monitors adequate level of cleaning supplies required to perform duties and reports low inventory to the parts department as needed.
  • Assists with preparations of inclement weather events such as snow and flooding, including performing snow removal and other duties as required.
  • Notifies Supervisor or designee of potential dangers, hazards, or malfunctioning equipment, systems, or building problems.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Company Safety policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
