About the position

Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES), an industry leader with a reputation for excellence in providing environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services to clients in diverse market sectors, seeks a Part-Time Environmental Field Technician, working 10 to 20+ hours per week to be based in Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego County) to provide field support throughout this area and other parts of California as opportunities develop.

Responsibilities

  • Safely monitors, documents and maintains mechanical equipment used and performs general field service tasks in the environmental remediation industry.
  • Applying mechanical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and maintain remediation equipment.
  • Using precision measuring equipment and various hand and power tools.
  • Documenting and supervising excavation, well-drilling, and various trade contractors.
  • Performing general labor and construction duties based on the project requirements.
  • Working with water wells, piping and pumps.
  • Maintaining equipment calibration logs.
  • Recording field notes to the specific task performed at each site location.
  • Handling general warehouse and maintenance duties.
  • Performing soil, groundwater, and vapor/soil gas sampling activities.
  • Perform periodic site maintenance and upkeep via mowing, brush hog and weed trimmer use.
  • Following GES engineering, construction, and O&M policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to GES Health & Safety Standards in all field-related activities.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 4-8+ years of related environmental fieldwork experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Strong technical and mechanical abilities.
  • Field note documentation and use of Microsoft Excel and Word based programs.
  • Lifting, bending, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to support project needs.
  • Regular overnight travel for 1 to 2+ nights.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be detail oriented and a team player.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electricity, pumps, blowers, motors, air compressors.
