About The Position

This position will be working approximately 15 hours per week. This position will be asked to work a variety of evening shifts M-F, as well as weekends during the day to accommodate the programs that we offer. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to: Little Squirts sports, Youth Developmental sports, Adult Volleyball leagues, etc. The employee will support the City of Rock Springs mission 'To provide all individuals, through the combined efforts of city government and the people it serves, an effective, efficient and productive form of government, while promoting an enhanced quality of life, open communications and economic growth'. The employee will demonstrate the ability to manage time, maintain a safe and clean environment; practice confidentiality; treat all persons with respect and professional courtesy; accept change; accept and provide constructive feedback; and work as a team player. The employee must also demonstrate the competencies for their position and adhere to policies and procedures of their department and the City of Rock Springs.

Requirements

  • Possession of current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certifications
  • Ability to effectively supervise a wide range of recreation positions
  • Ability to conduct work in a safe manner in accordance with established policy
  • Familiarity with all types of sports, arts & crafts, and games
  • Ability to perform first aid and comprehend, remember and follow detailed oral directions
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position
  • Interest in recreation work; creativity; reliability; ability to get along well with others; initiative, patience, tact, and resourcefulness
  • Ability to maintain a physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and courteously, orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that facilities are clean and safe for users by performing routine maintenance on equipment and facility grounds
  • Providing first aid to injured persons until emergency medical personnel arrive
  • Supervising youth, adult, & senior activities to ensure safety, provide guidance, and ensure appropriate behavior of class, or program participants
  • Dressing appropriately for their work environment according to facility policies or best practices for the industry
  • Supervising activities such as arts and crafts, sports leagues, and summer camps
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations such as checking for equipment defects before allowing participants to use a piece of equipment
