About The Position

The Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for the instruction, leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all class participants. The lifeguard instructor is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of all materials and equipment used for lifeguard instruction. It is the lifeguard instructor's responsibility to observe and direct all class participants, and to provide feedback and appropriate correction as instructed or included in the job description. The Lifeguard Instructor position is a year-round part-time position with the City of Pasadena Parks & Recreation Department that cannot work more than 999 hours per calendar year. Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR programs. Assists with the training and management of all pool managers ensuring they are meeting departmental standards. Ensures all lifeguards are being audited on a monthly basis and documented in the HydroApps software. Plans and leads all in-service trainings during the summer and ensures documentation in HydroApps software. Ability to adapt your teaching approach to match the experience and abilities of the participants. Organizes and directs activities of assigned participants in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students. Ensures all class students are registered and on the class roster prior to beginning class. Completes and submits records and documentation of completed classes to the Aquatics supervisor and American Red Cross office. Works with Aquatics supervisor on an on-going basis to upgrade, improve and refine individual teaching skills related to teaching effective American Red Cross courses. Assists Aquatics Recreation Manager in recruitment planning, events and hiring as needed. Ensures proper compliance with all facility rentals rules and regulations. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must be 17 years of age with a minimum of 2 years lifeguarding experience.
  • American Red Cross in Lifeguard Instructor
  • American Red Cross in Lifeguarding
  • CPR with AED
  • First Aid
  • blood borne pathogens

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
  • Previous lifeguard instructor experience
